International pet Transport to New Zealand

Pet transport to New Zealand from another country requires engaging a registered International Pet Transporters Association member to fascilitate your international pet travel.   Wherever you are based in the world, we would recommend speaking to a registered pet transporter in your country of origin.   You can check the IPATA members directory here to find a local agent by doing a “search by country:”  https://www.ipata.org/ipata-pet-shippers-air-and-ground

Part of importing a pet in to New Zealand means checking that you have met all importing country requirements.  You can check import country requirements on our local governing authority MPI (Ministry of Primary Industries) website:  https://www.mpi.govt.nz/importing/live-animals/pets/steps-to-importing-cats-and-dogs/

Here you can download the General Guidance document and check which category your country of origin is in, either Category 1, Category 2, or Category 3 and follow the accompanying criteria for transporting your pet to NZ from these nations.

We can help you organise your pets’ customs clearance, MPI issued Import Permit (not required for pets entering from Australia), quarantine booking, or MPI inspection, though owners can also do all of these things themselves!
